Shivams Birthday Lunch at Greens Indian Cuisine!

My Writing: Shivam’s Birthday Lunch!

On Tuesday our class Te Ngahere went and had lunch at Greens Indian Cuisine for Shivam's birthday. Since Shivam’s parents owned the restaurant we got to eat for free so we were very grateful. When the bell rang for morning playtime my friend Jade and I decided to make a birthday card for Shivam with everyones signature in it. After the bell rang to come back inside we practiced our waiata then got ready to walk down to Greens. When we arrived at the restaurant we chose our tables we wanted to sit at. About 5 minutes later they came with some cans of coke and sprite and everyone was like ohhhh woohoo. After that they gave our food table by table. We had butter chicken, plain or garlic naan and rice. The food was soo delicious and mouth watering. I felt amazing but my tummy felt even better. You could tell that the fizzy drinks were kicking in because everyone was getting so hypo. When everyone finished eating my friend Jade and I said a little mihi for Shivam on behalf of the class and gave him our card. Then we asked everyone to come to the front of the restaurant so we could perform our waiata to say thank you to Shivam and his family. Everyone sang their hearts out and it really showed how grateful we really were. Everyone went back to their tables and Shivam gave us a surprise by giving us some big easter eggs and we were even more grateful and happy. The cool thing was that the easter eggs were on these trolley’s and everyone was like woooow because we have never seen so many easter eggs. If you have been to any of the Greens restaurants what do restaurant do you like better, Indian or Thai? What do you call a vegetarian butter-chicken? - Everything but-a-chicken.

Bye bye!

Do you know how to convert decimals into place value?

Hello, This week in Te Ngahere we have started to learn some new Maths. Half of the class were all in different groups so we weren’t doing the same activity. There was a square group, tick group, circle group and a star group. I was in the group called star. My group were learning how to use a range of strategies to solve decimal addition and multiplication problems. I think this is a good strategy for me to learn because it can help me more with my place value and decimals. I think this strategy can help me to get better at my decimals and place value. At the start I was really really confused but then I started to get the hang of it. I started to get it more because my group leader was making more sense and made sure we got it step by step. If we do this again I will pay more attention to the group leader and I will make sure to show my thinking to make sure I am on the right track.

What do you like better, decimals or place value?

Russell Swimming Sports

Hey, On Wednesday the 17th our School went to Russell for swimming sports. The schools Russell, Paihia, Maromaku, Moerewa and some other schools all came to the Russell swimming sports. After the morning bell rang we had karakia and a himene, then walked down to the wharf to catch the “Happy Ferry” to Russell. When we arrived in Russell we were the second school to get there. Since we sort of came early we had to wait for a while. While we were waiting, some of us were chilling, playing and the people who were diving were practising there walk. When all of the schools started showing up we then started all of the swimming. We started off with the divers. Everyone was cheering for the divers till they finished. I enjoyed watching the divers because they were really good. Then we started doing freestyle races, it went youngest to oldest. When it was my turn to do freestyle my friend Jade and I had butterflies but we just shook it off. As soon as I heard the bang I dived into the relaxing water and swam my best. I was happy with myself because I came third. I really enjoyed going to the Russell Swimming sports because it was an amazing day! What is your favourite swimming style?

Bye Bye!

The Task Masters!

Hello, In Te Ngahere we have been doing something called Task Masters. We had to work collaboratively and communicate with our learning buddies. This is why:

This game is called “copy the picture challenge”. So, There is one drawer and two runners. The drawer cannot run and the runner cannot draw or even touch the paper. Since there are two runners, only one person can run at a time and the two runners have to run at least once or twice. The most accurate picture wins.

On our first attempt it was only one of my group member and me. But it worked well because he didn’t have one person telling him to do one thing and then the other person telling him to do something different. What didn’t work well was I was running back and forth because it was only me running so it was tiring. The challenging part was I couldn’t touch the paper or point where to draw the pictures.

On our second attempt, something that changed was there were now three of us so it was a bit easier. Something that worked well was it wasn’t only me running so I wasn’t always tired. What didn’t work well was the runners wanted to touch the paper because it was sort of frustrating. The challenging part was to stay calm and to explain ourselves more clearer.

Bye Bye!

My Pepeha & Mihi

Kia Ora, In Te Ngahere we have been learning our pepeha. We were also learning a simple mihi to go with our pepeha. For our pepeha we had to say our maunga, awa, waka, iwi, hapu, marae, surname, school, your family, where your from and your name. We were learning our mihi and pepeha to welcome our new students and if we need to say something on the marae we will know what to say. I enjoyed this because I now know my mihi and pepeha of by heart. The only thing I struggled with was saying my iwi before my hapu. Do you know your mihi or Pepeha?

Here is my Pepeha and Mihi:

How To Confuse Yourself With Food Webs

Kia ora, For the past few weeks in Te Ngahere we have been learning about food webs. A food web is when energy transfers from a living organism to another.

The food web that I made is really different to the one on our home site because there are more arrows, the arrows are colored and the pictures are placed differently. It is also different because on mine there are four arrows connected to the kiwi and there is only one arrow connected to the kiwi on the other one on the home site.

If there is an arrow going from the kowhai to the tui, that means the tui gets its energy from the kowhai because that is its food. The hard thing was, that I was confusing myself from the way the arrows were pointing. The easy thing was knowing the simple things like the birds get the energy from the seeds and stoats eat kiwi.

Do you now know what a food web is?

How To Make Your Name Beautiful!

In Te Ngahere we have been doing symmetry name art. We were learning how to make our name into art. I enjoyed doing this because I love art and it didn’t take long to do. The hard thing was to make sure that everything was symmetrical including the letters. If you wanted to make your name beautiful I would recommend doing symmetry name art. What is your name?

#I Made Lasagne

On Tuesday the year 7 & 8’s went to Tech at Moerewa School. Tech is where you learn something new. For example: Last year the year 7’s (us) did Woodwork and now this year the year 8’s are cooking. This week we made lasagne. This week is our second week back at technology. It would have been our third week but covid hit and we missed out. I really enjoyed cooking because I learnt how to make lasagne and it tasted AMAZING! Next time I will try to add more vegetables even though I did already have a lot. What was your favourite thing you did in Tech?

Measuring Big or Small

Hey, In Te Ngahere we have been learning about measurement. We were also learning about converting to millimetres, centimetres and metres. With our groups we were measuring objects as small as an A4 page to the size of our court. On an A4 page there were a list of things we had to measure. I enjoyed everything but I enjoyed measuring the court the most because it had more to measure. Next time I think I could practice converting because my group and I sort of got confused. What is the smallest or biggest object you have measured?

A Devastating Threat To Life

On Friday 5th March 2021 it was a normal day, or so it seemed. As I finished getting ready I looked at the time and saw that it was 8:44am,;I was late. When we were turning into the school entrance there was a loud siren noise. As soon as we got out of the car everyone was yelling, trying to tell me there was going to be a tsunami and we had to evacuate.

At first I was confused because all I could hear was yelling. Then I heard the word tsunami and I just froze. I was told there was going to be a tsunami so my dad said get into the car. While we were driving I couldn’t believe what was happening and I was very very very scared. My sister was acting like she was going to die but we told her she wasn’t and she was going to be okay and she just needed to calm down.

When we arrived at my house we started to pack some clothes and get some food to go to Kawakawa and stay at my Nan’s. On our way to Kawakawa we were calling our family to make sure they were all okay. Next time I will make sure not to panic that much and make smart choices. Have you ever been in a tsunami before?

Bye Bye!

Things You Didn’t Know About Ecosystems!

Kia ora, For the past two weeks in Te Ngahere we have been learning about ecosystems and how they work. We have a google doc where in the first box we write what we already know, in the second box we write the new information we discovered and in the third box we write our new understandings. Ecosystems are like a life cycle that keeps going. With ecosystems, if you put something in or take something out of the ecosystem it will ruin the whole cycle. I didn’t really understand anything and didn’t know what I had to write or draw on my google drawing but then my friends helped me and now it is green. I enjoyed learning about ecosystems because I learnt something new. Did you know what an ecosystem was before you saw my post?
