The Marvelous Science Roadshow

On Monday, Te Ngahere had the privilege to go to Bay of Islands College to attend the Science Roadshow. We were attending this science roadshow because we had a science fair coming up so we wanted to get some ideas and see how everything works.

In this science roadshow they had a whole lot of different exhibits to look at. My favourite exhibit was “Pepper's Ghost” because when the light was on, on the left side all you could see was a chair but when the light was on, on the right side it looked like there was a skeleton ghost. This exhibit was all about reflection because in the middle was like a reflector glass.

From this experience I learnt that gasses take up more space than liquids, which really surprised me.

If you got to make something for a science fair, what would it be?

How To Make Your Art Work More Outstanding!

In Te Ngahere we have been doing some digital art. The digital art we are doing is called Mosaic Art. We first had to make a Google drawing. Next we had to choose an animal, person, plant, etc or anything we wanted to (even anime characters). Then we had to use the polyline tool to make any kind of shapes with gaps so the shapes weren’t touching to make the animal, person or plant we chose. We were learning about Mosaic art because earlier on this term we made some DLO’s and Videos about trees or plants of our choice.
We are going to make some Q.R codes that link to our DLO and with the Mosaic art picture of a plant or tree so that the person has an idea of what we are talking about. We also did this last year so I had a few ideas of what to do so I enjoyed it very much. I think that I did good with making the shapes and using the polyline tool. Something I could have done better was adding some other colours to make it look more detailed instead of just doing two colours. I think that my Rabbit turned out really well and I like it very much. If you got a chance to make a Mosaic Art piece, what would it be of?
Here is my Mosaic Art of a Rabbit: Hope you like it!

Waka Technology

For the past few weeks this term the year 7 & 8’s have been going to technology in Moerewa. This term the year 8’s are doing woodwork and the year 7’s are doing cooking. I am a year 8 so I am doing woodwork and we are making our own Waka. We first measured our piece of wood and then cut it out with the power tools. Them we glued another full piece of wood to the cut out piece of wood. The piece of wood that we cut out with the power tools went on top of the full piece of wood. Next we shaped the bottom and a bit of the sides of our Waka using another tool called a plane. When we did that we started cutting up some smaller and thinner pieces of wood to go on both the ends of our Waka. That was all I did last week but I will for sure do more next week and hopefully finish it. The hard part for me was cutting a straight line with the power tools we had to use. The two parts I found easy was glueing the cut out piece of wood and the full piece of wood together, I also found it a bit easy to cut out the small and thin pieces of wood that go on the end of our Waka. Does your school do Technology?

An Update On Our Smart Relationships DLO

In Te Ngahere we have been learn about being smart online. If you saw my latest blog post then you would know what I am talking about. If you haven’t seen my latest blog post then basically my class had to make a DLO about being smart online. My friend Jade and I decided to make an animation about being smart online because we thought that it was the best thing that we could make to teach people about why you should be smart online. I think that Jade and I collaborated very well with each other and that is why it only took 2-3 days to complete our animation. I think that Jade and I could of added more detail to what the characters are doing and how they feel. If we had more time I think that Jade and I could of done better but it is alright because I am proud of what we accomplished and I think Jade is too.
Here is mine and Jade’s animation about being smart online: Hope you like it!
