The Step by Step Guide to Calculating a Perimeter

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to calculate a perimeter. A perimeter is the length of the outline of a shape.
I have created a DLO to show you what a perimeter is, how to calculate a perimeter with examples and how I worked the equations out. Before I started this Maths lesson I didn't know how to calculate a perimeter or even know what a perimeter was. I now know how to calculate a perimeter and what a perimeter is.
Do you know what a perimeter is? Do you know how to calculate a perimeter? Have you ever calculated a perimeter before?
I really enjoyed my time of learning with this lesson on calculating a perimeter.
Ka Kite! Bye!

Russell Swimming Sports

Russell Swimming Sports
Kia ora, On Thursday the 12th of March some students from Paihia School participated in the Russell Swimming Sports. I would like to say a big thank you to Daryl Honey and Shelly Honey for giving us a free boat ride there and back. I would also like to say a big thank you to Mrs Williams for organizing this event and Whaea Roni for coming along. We had to walk to the wharf, so we left school at about 8:30am to get to the wharf by 8:45 am. When I got to school it was about 8:30 am, I went to my classroom to get my school T-Shirt on. When everyone who was going to Russell swimming sports got to school, Mrs Williams did a roll call to see if everyone was here. When we got to the wharf we were just in time because the ferry just got to the wharf. When we got to Russell my friend Jade and I were nervous and excited at the same time. Then we went to our spot and sat down, some of us went in the water and had a little play. The schools who participated were Karetu, Oromahoe, Russell, Waikare and Paihia School. At about 9:30 am it was the diving contest, two girls and two boys from each school. My friend Jade and I were the two girls who participated and Shay and Mikaire were the two boys who participated from our school. There were two rounds of the diving contest and the challenge was to try and make no splash and the judges would give us a score. Our scores would be higher depending on what our entrance was. When I dived into the water it was refreshing and I felt like i had done a big splash but when I got out of the water my friend jade told me there was hardly any splash. I think that Jade, Shay and Mikaire and I did a great job. After that the second race was freestyle for the 11 year old girls. Jade, Isabella and I competed in the freestyle for the 11 year old girls. We had to wait for the big bang, then we dive into the water and start our freestyle. I came second and I felt proud of myself. After the races it went 11 year old boys, 10 year old girls, 10 year old boys and it went in a repeated pattern like that down to 7 year old girls and boys. Not everyone did freestyle some of us did breathstroke or backstroke. After the races started the relays began. The relays were just for fun and these 4 students Anyah, Mihipeka, James and Rymon did the relays. After the relays we had a Manu comp, the best two students from each school went and they were Anyah and Harlem. Anyah was the only girl and she won. When the relays finished we had prize giving and this girl named Grace won in the 12 year olds freestyle. All the schools started to leave after prize giving because everything was finished. Our school was a loud to go to four square so my friend Jade and I went to four square and I brought a whole block of chocolate. We all wanted to go to the wharf and do some Manu’s and bombs since Mrs Williams said we could. So we did and I think we all had a lot of fun that day. We had about half an hour to jump off the wharf, then we had to dry ourselves quickly because we had to catch the ferry back to Paihia. Overall I had an amazing day and I think everyone else did to. I enjoyed every minute that day. Thank you to everyone who made that day possible.
