Doubling & Halving

In Te Ngahere we have been making Maths DLO’s around multiplication problems using doubling & halving. In our Math DLO’s we had to show how we worked it out, how it works, when you would use this strategy & what it is. We were learning how to double and halve big multiplication problems. What I think I did well was when I had to explain the strategy and the thing that I enjoyed was when I explained how I worked it out and how it works. Next time I think I could listen to my teacher when she says what we have to put in our DLO the first time but also look at the success criteria. Blog you later!

Te Awamutu Camp

In the last week of the holidays Me and my family and some other people drove down to Auckland to go to Te awamutu camp. Everyone came over the night before, we all packed our bags in the van, We all had to wake up at 3 o'clock in the morning. Everyone woke up at 3 o'clock in the morning we went into the van closed the doors and drove off. We arrived to Te awamutu at around about 9:00am. We stopped at the takeaways to get some kai. We all had a kai then we drove off again. We arrived at Te awamutu camp at about 9:50am. We got out of the van and went into the eating area. When we walked into the kai area everyone just finished having breakfast. My moko when straight to the skatepark area. Because he didn't have a skateboard the slid down them. The activities was paintball, go karts, hydro slide, rocket/banana boat, gym, skatepark area, Basketball/netball area and Volleyball. We stayed at the camp for 4 days but left on monday in the afternoon. We stayed in dorms. We all had an Excellent weekend.

On Tuesday the 2nd of April, a band came to our school. They were called the nukes and they played ukulele as well as the drums. A group of 25 students got to perform and play the ukulele with the band in front of the whole school. Seniors from Russell school got to perform also some of them got to watch. I really enjoyed when we all got up and done the crazy chicken dance.

Math DLO

Doubling & Halving

In Maths we have been focusing on doubling and halving/Multiplication. I like using doubling and halving because in math when I have to solve multiplication problems I get confused, so it is really good that I know how to double and halve. Doubling and halving is when you double the small number and you half the big number. Sometimes if you have an uneven equation like 15 x 5 you can’t halve either of those numbers so you would have to double both the numbers, so 15x2 is 30 5x2 is 10 so you would have 30x10. Another (Example) 5x14, you would half the 14 which will make 7 then you would double the 5 which will make 10 and then you would have 7x10

Talent Quest

Last week on Friday the 22nd of March kids competed in the Talent quest. It started at 11:30 and it was held in the Whare. There was three judges and they were Whaea Roni, Whaea Alisha and Bridgett. I enjoyed watching the Talent quest because everyone used there hoe and gave it their best. What I could do better next time is to enter the Talent quest next year.

Sea Cleaners

On the 12th of March sea cleaners came to Paihia School to talk to us about Our pollution in our sea. I learnt that the great pacific garbage patch is so deep that they cannot measure it, I also learnt that a couple of years ago they found a Turtle that had 267 pieces of plastic in its stomach. I enjoyed watching the Video that the people made about cleaning the ocean and the beach, they were coming back with a lot of rubbish bags in their boat. I will pick it up even if it was not mine as it is being kind to our world and our sea creatures.

Magic Show

On Wednesday the 27th of February year 7 & 8 went to tech but the rest of the school had a magic show on. We had to pay 4$ for the magic show. The guys name was Vas. He was coming to our school to teach us about healthy eating and also to show us some magic tricks. He told us that he was a professional magician. The magic show was called be right eat right.

Self Portraits

In Te Ngahere we have been creating self portraits. Whaea becks took chest high photos to get the shape of all our faces. After our photos got printed out we got 3 pastel colours and started creating our self portraits. I enjoyed making my self portrait and learning how to make art look more bolder and exciting. It was really hard to fill in the white spaces but I got there. We had to be really careful that you didn't smudge the pastel. I really liked all the colours because it makes our classroom stand out.
