Tips To Be Smart Online!

Today in Te Ngahere, we have been learning about being Smart Online. We are doing this to help us to be smart on the internet and be safe about what we share. The first thing we did was watch a video about why you should be smart and safe online and on the internet. The video was a short clip of a girl who was not thinking safe online and shared some personal/private things about herself which caused people to know things about her which could end up with her getting kidnapped. From the video, I learnt to never share any personal or private things like you full name, address, phone number, etc about you or your family and friends because it is not safe and there are some stupid people out there who can hurt you. I am going to be more smarter online by not sharing any personal or private things about me, don’t post anything I would not want my parents, principal or teachers to see. I would not post anything that I would not want my parents, principal or teachers to see because if I don’t want them to see, why would I want other people to see (like strangers who don’t even know me). We then had to make a DLO about what we learnt and to give people some tips to be safer online and the internet.
Do you think you are safe online or the internet?

Bye Bye!

How To Expand Numbers DLO

Hello, For the past two weeks in Te Ngahere we have been learning some new Maths. For Maths we have been learning how to expand numbers. To show our learning we had to make a DLO how ever we wanted to make it. In our DLO we had to explain how to expand a number step by step by saying; what we are learning about (expanding numbers), how to expand numbers and other things that we wrote in our own success criteria to help us expand a number. I enjoyed doing this because I now know how to expand a number and I can see numbers differently. Maybe next time my group should ask if everyone understands what is happening like; why we are putting these numbers in this column. Do you know how to expand a number?
Here is my expanding numbers DLO: Hope you like it!

Angela's Little Fishy Tank

In Te Ngahere we have started some new art. Our teachers decided to give us some time to create a digital picture on Google drawing. We did this so we could learn how to use Google drawings more confidently and learn how to create a digital picture on Google drawings. We were trying to create an underwater scene using the autoshapes and line tools.

We tried to be very creative with our digital picture to make it look interesting. The first thing we did was watch a video that showed us some tips to make a digital picture. Next we went off and started to make our own digital picture. The hardest part about this art project was, I was still sort of learning how to use Google drawing.

The more time I took to make my digital picture, the easier it got. It got easier because I was exploring the shapes, lines and I got to see what I could create with them. If you got to make a digital picture on Google drawings, what scenery would you pick to make it about?

Bye Bye!

That's All She Wants

On Sunday May the 9th it was a very special day. Yep, you guessed it, It was MOTHERS DAY! For Mothers day my dad and I woke up at about 9:30 am and started cooking my mum breakfast at about 10:00 am. While my dad and I were cooking breakfast, my sister was giving my mum a foot massage in bed. For breakfast we had eggs benedict. On the eggs benedict we had bacon, baby spinach, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. My favourite thing about the eggs benedict was the hollandaise sauce because it was very tasty, creamy and cheesy. I thought that our breakfast was so so yummy because it was made with lots of love. “Wow that was truly amazing” says my mum with joy. After our delicious breakfast we had a rest. My mum said she wanted to have a nap because we all had a very big day on Saturday with all of the other Mother’s we knew. When my mum woke up, my brother rang her to ask if she wanted to come and have some dinner at his place. He said that his partners family were also going to come as well. For dinner we had tomato, ham and cheese quasonts, paua and cream, macaroni and cheese and lot’s of other yummy food. I really enjoyed Mother’s Day because I got to spend it with my mum and my other family. What did you do with your mum on Mother’s Day.

Bye!

Angela and Jade’s Best P.M.I DLO Ever!

In Te Ngahere this week we are finishing off our Ngahere notes from Term 1. For our Ngahere notes we had to choose a plant or animal in New Zealand off a list the teachers gave us and then learn facts about it. My friend Jade and I chose to research about Silver Ferns. We then wrote a script so we can do any type of DLO we wanted to show what we had learnt about the topic we chose and to also teach other people about our topic. My friend Jade and I are in a group together and we actually finished our research, script and our green screen video in Term 1, so we started working on doing a P.M.I. To make our P.M.I we made a google drawing and added our green screen video about Silver Ferns and a short clip of one of David Attenborough documentaries. We did a P.M.I to compare our video to David Attenborough’s video to see what was good about our video, what wasn't good about our video and what was interesting about our video. I enjoyed making a P.M.I because we could see what was alright and what we could have done better next time. Next time if we have to make a movie or any video about something I would take my time and not rush anything, put a lot of effort into making it and make it more interesting. One thing I would change is, instead of doing a green screen with pictures behind us I would actually try and go outside and show people where Silver Ferns live and what they look like so they have a better view. What is your favourite animal or plant that is from New Zealand?

Can You Follow Directions!

Kia ora, welcome back to Term 2 at Paihia School. In Te Ngahere we did a little reading test to see if we can follow instructions carefully!!! Whaea Becks gave each one of us a piece of paper with instructions on it. We had to answer the 23 questions within four to five minutes. The teachers said that this test was simply just to see if we can follow instructions carefully. “3, 2, 1 and start” Whaea Becks said. When I started reading the paper the first question said “read everything carefully before doing anything”. So I did that, or so I thought. I carried on with the instructions and did everything as it said until I got to the last question. The last question said: “Now that you have finished reading everything carefully, do only sentences one and two! I quickly knew that I did not read each question carefully. It said to read each question carefully but I obviously did not read each question carefully, because if I did then I only would have done question one or two. I really enjoyed this activity but next time we have to follow instructions I will make sure to read each one carefully one by one. If you did this test how do you think you will go?
