Duffy Assembly

At Paihia School we receive Duffy books, every 2 terms we have a Duffy assembly. On Wednesday the 11th of September we had our Duffy role model assembly. We were lucky enough that we had Rebecca Brothers to come and be our Duffy role model. Rebecca Brothers is a retired Olympic swimmer, she is now a police officer & a Mother of three kids. After the Duffy role model assembly everyone received a Duffy book. I chose to get a book called Emma & another book which was a Maori book called The Singing Dolphin. We were learning about Rebecca Brother backstory. I enjoyed learning about how books had helped her family by bringing her family together since they all like reading and her kids learn more/new words.

Energize

On Tuesday the 3rd of September Whaea Gina came to Paihia School to teach us about healthy and unhealthy drinks. Whaea Gina taught us about drinks we should drink everyday, drinks we shouldn’t drink as much and drinks we should stop drinking. Did you know E2 has 20 tsp of sugar in it and coke only has 10 tsp of sugar in it so Whaea Gina said regular coke is better then the other coke’s such as diet coke and the other cokes. Also did you know that milk and water are the healthiest drinks? Did you know that juice isn’t as healthy as milk and water? Did you also know that tropical drinks are still unhealthy even though they have fruit in it they still contain a lot of sugar.

When everyone got to Bledisloe, Mrs Williams told everyone that we were about to start and where the starting line was & the finish line was. It started with the 5 year old boys and went to the 5 year old girls and so on. We were running in the age that we were on that day. I was running with the 10 year old girls & I came 1st, Jade came 2nd & Kaitlin came 3rd. When I finished the race I felt so happy & relieved that we were finished. I really pushed myself at the end and even though I had no energy I still gave it my best. The kids who came 1st, 2nd & 3rd are going to the interschool cross country in Waikare which is been held on the 6th of September.

On Monday my time was 5:40. On Wednesday my time was 5:18, The next day my time was 5:13 but on Friday I got 4:55 seconds which was really good because I saw that I had Improved so much to my first time. With us running everyday I think it is really good because I am getting better and better. Next week we will be running 3 Laps.

Energize

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about healthy & unhealthy foods that affects our heart. We learnt that there are many different healthy food categories like milk and milk products, meat and meat alternatives, grain foods and vegetables and fruit. We also learnt that when you get Mcdonalds, that their thin chips contain more fat than thick chips because they absorb more oil. We learnt that even if your a vegetarian you still need meat alternative because of the protein in it and they have a good source of iron. We also learnt that your meat is supposed to be the size of your palm. Whaea Gina also told us to try not to bring to many packaged things in your lunchbox to save our environment.

I enjoyed watching the Talent quest because everyone used there hoe and gave it their best. What I could do better next time is to enter the Talent quest next year.

Sea Cleaners

On the 12th of March sea cleaners came to Paihia School to talk to us about Our pollution in our sea. I learnt that the great pacific garbage patch is so deep that they cannot measure it, I also learnt that a couple of years ago they found a Turtle that had 267 pieces of plastic in its stomach. I enjoyed watching the Video that the people made about cleaning the ocean and the beach, they were coming back with a lot of rubbish bags in their boat. I will pick it up even if it was not mine as it is being kind to our world and our sea creatures.

Magic Show - be right, eat right

On Wednesday the 27th of February year 7 & 8 went to tech but the rest of the school had a magic show on. We had to pay 4$ for the magic show. The guy name was Vas. He was coming to our school to teach us about healthy eating and also to show us some magic tricks. He told us that he was a professional magician. The magic show was called be right eat right.

Self Portraits

In Te Ngahere we have been creating self portraits. Whaea becks took chest high photos to get the shape of all our faces. After our photos got printed out we got 3 pastel colours and started creating our self portraits. I enjoyed making my self portrait and learning how to make art look more bolder and exciting. It was really hard to fill in the white spaces but I got there. We had to be really careful that you didn't smudge the pastel. I really liked all the colours because it makes our classroom stand out.

Te Reo Maori

In Te Ngahere we have been making a slide presentation about our whanau in Maori. While we have been making our slide presentation we have also been learning some more Maori Kupu. Taku Whanau is when you add your whanau on a Slide presentation. On our Taku Whanau presentation we had to add our self, Mum, Dad, Koro, Kuia, Siblings, Aunty, Uncle & your cousins. Before we screencastify it we had to get our Maori Kupu wright. When we got our Maori Kupu wright we self checked it, buddy checked it & teacher check. When we finished our Taku Whanau presentation we got to screencastify it.

Project Island Song

On Thursday the 14th the yr 6’s went to Oteha Bay to do some activities with two very special ladies whose names were Debs & Ria. Because we had to travel on a boat to get to Oteha bay there wasn’t enough life guards so there were some other people from project Island Song and their names were Matty, Brooklyn, loren. When we first got on the boat Ria told us that it was going to take an hour 30 min. We opened the windows when we were out in sea, we also then got to go sit out on the bal with the boat and when the boat stopped for us to have a look out we got to stand up. It was really cold in front of the boat on the bal but it was so cool. We had to walk over a helicopter pad and go onto another boat onto a floating walkway. Debs and Ria told us a few Rules so we know what to do and what not to do. Debs and Ria also said we are the next Kaitiaki.
