Science fair day

Last Friday we had our big Science day. We were all waiting to see who comes first, second & third. We were planning for everyone to come & see our science projects in the middle block. The first class that came in to see our science fair projects were Nga Motu, then Te Moana, then Te Awa and lastly, Te Maunga. We learnt that perseverance is the key to success. We also learnt that you make sure that your board is clear to read, you use scientific language & you have a good AIM. The judges were Mrs Lindsay (our principal) & Danielle who is a Marine Biologist & the twins mum. When the teachers announced the winners we all crossed our fingers & went silent. I think next time for our science project we will start earlier.

Science Fair

In Te Ngahere we have been preparing for the Science Fair. My group is Jorjah & Jade. We are experimenting with what is the most common area for catching rats at Paihia School. We have planned to check the traps in the morning which is at 8:30am and at 2:15pm before we go home. What I found challenging was when we were writing down our Method & Hypothesis. What I enjoyed was when we were making the slideshow & sticking it onto the board. We have learnt how to tell what species they are and if they are a male or female.Look at the underside of your rat under the base of the tail. If you can see furry testicles, you have a male. If you don't, she's a female.

Science Fair Plan

In Te Ngahere we have been preparing for the Science Fair. For the Science Fair my group is Jorjah & Jade. For our Science experiment we are experimenting what is the most common area for catching rats at Paihia School. Cross Country Training

In Te Ngahere we have been training for Cross Country. I have been learning how to use a line graph using my time. Last week Te Ngahere was running 2 laps around the field, pump track and court. On Monday my time was 5:40. On Wednesday my time was 5:18, The next day my time was 5:13 but on Friday I got 4:55 seconds which was really good because I saw that I had Improved so much to my first time. With us running everyday I think it is really good because I am getting better and better. Next week we will be running 3 Laps.

Ned's Mindset Mission

On Thursday the 1st of August we had a very special lady come to Paihia School from Texas named Nicole. She came to teach us about Mindset mission and what Ned stands for. We learnt that the N in Ned’s name stands for never give up, the E stands for encourage other’s and the D stands for do your best. She told us a lot of Important Messages like if you set your mind to it you can do anything, let go of I know so that you can learn and grow and that your brain needs fuel and Knowledge to learn and grow. My favourite part was when she told us the Important Messages. I really Enjoyed everything about Ned’s Mindset Mission.

Bay Bush Action

On thursday the 30th Whaea Stella came to Paihia School to talk to us. She came because she wanted to talk to us about Bay Bush action. The name of there group was He Waka Kaitiaki Whenua. She talked to us about pests she traps and catches such as Stoats, Possums, Ferrets, Wild Cats, Rats ect. She told us that every single one of us had the potential to become something great. We got to touch Possum fur as well. After we went through the slideshow she made about pests she asked us who is the problem and we all had a vote. When we all voted she told us that we are the problem, humans are the problem. We were the problem because we took the animals away from their Natural habitat. But she said we were the problem but now we can become the solution. I enjoyed when Whaea Stella came to talk to us about Bay Bush Action because I learnt some new things, about animals. What I could do better next time is sit still.

Variables DLO

In Te Ngahere we have been making marble ramps. We were learning about variables. Variables Is something that you change to make the outcome better. Sometimes if you change a variable it either makes it better or worse. I think that my group and I did well was we explained the Instructions. Next time I think when we get another chance to build our marble ramp I would put our marble ramp on a different angle.
