Turbo Touch

Kia ora, For the last couple of weeks our class, Te Ngahere have been playing physical activities e.g; Turbo Touch and fast five netball. But in this blog post I am going to be talking about Turbo Touch. At first not all of us knew how to play but then the more we played and learned new skills we got the hang of it. We started off playing turbo touch for about a week but then we started playing fast five. Turbo touch is a really fun activity but there are some rules. In my opinion I like the rules and they are really easy. I am going to explain the rules. The first rule is if you drop the ball it would be handover. Second rule, you are not allowed to kick the ball and if you do then it would also be handover. There is also one more thing, there is no offside. What I learnt was to spread out so its faster and easier to get a goal because when my team were in our first game of turbo touch none of us were spread out and it caused us to just keep passing the ball to the same person, kept on getting tagged and having to always give the ball to the other side because we were in and small circle bunched up together. What I also learnt was that we need to talk to each other and make a plan because not all of us were sharing the ball and we're not getting the ball. So that was the two main things I think from playing Turbo touch.

Inter School Athletics

At Paihia School we have been practising for athletics every Wednesday and Friday. Last week on Friday the 22nd November we went to Bledisloe Domain to participate in the inter school Athletics. Athletics started at 10:00 am so we left at 9:30 am. I went with my Mum and she could take 7 people including me and my Sister. So we took my friend Zara, Tea, Amelia, Tiana, my sister and I. When everyone from our school arrived at Bledisloe Domain some of us were playing and some of us were eating. While we were all sitting Mrs Williams asked for everyone's attention and she told us what we were going to do throughout the day. After Mrs Williams did that, we said Karakia. I was with the year 6 girls and there were a lot of Paihia School, when we were doing the 100 metre sprints our school had to split up into groups, and for discuss we went first because there we so many of us. First we did 200 and 400 metre sprints, After that we did shot put then long jump the discuss. Then we had our break, after our break we did relays then 100 metre sprints and Finally HIGH JUMP and then we finished. We didn't get to do hurdles because some of the schools had to go back to school to catch there buses and some of them go to school further. I came 1st in the 200 metre sprints, I came 2nd in the 400 metre sprints, I came 1st in the 100 metre sprints and made it to the final and semi final so some people had to run three times like me, I came first in long jump and first in High jump. I really really love athletics and I had so much fun. Did you go to athletics? Do you have athletics? Do you like athletics?

Practicing Long Jump

Last Wednesday at Paihia School we had athletics. I was in group 1 and we were doing long jump. Since we are getting gates around our school the sandpit was blocked so we had to do it on the grass. Because we didn't have the sandpit to land on we had to make sure that we don't jump or land to hard on our feet. After a few rounds of doing that we played a game that makes us stretch our legs and jump further. We used rulers to know where we were jumping. If we stood or jumped on the ruler we would be out, but we were lucky that we had 2 lives. It was very cool practising jumping further and having fun at the same time. My friend Zara and I thought we wouldn't make it and we would be out but after that we knew we could do it and we made it. Do you like long jump? Have you ever done it before? In your opinion do you think long jump is easy or hard?

Athletics I'm lovin it

At Paihia School the seniors have been training for athletics because it is coming up soon and I am very excited. We are training on Wednesday and Friday every week. Because we didn't train last week on Wednesday or Wednesday this week we are going to practise on both Thursday and Friday. We split into 5 groups and so far I have only done high jump because I have been away the past two weeks on our holiday, since it was Labour Weekend. Our success criteria for high jump is Establish your take off foot-try taking off from both sides, Young jumpers should only use a scissors jump, Make sure that you push off with your outside leg and raise the inside leg closest to the bar. I think I could do better at thinking positive and saying to myself I can do this. What I enjoyed was everyone cheering for each other and making them feel comfortable. What do you think of athletics?

Cross Country

On Friday 30th of August, Paihia School went to Bledisloe Domain to participate in cross country. We left at 11:15am after the morning tea bell. At 11:05 everyone gathered up on the court, Whaea Crissy had the Job of calling people’s names out to either go in a car or bus. Mrs Phillips drove Jade, Kaitlin Imogen & I to Bledisloe Domain. When everyone got to Bledisloe, Mrs Williams told everyone that we were about to start and where the starting line was & the finish line was. It started with the 5 year old boys and went to the 5 year old girls and so on. We were running in the age that we were on that day. I was running with the 10 year old girls & I came 1st, Jade came 2nd & Kaitlin came 3rd. When I finished the race I felt so happy & relieved that we were finished. I really pushed myself at the end and even though I had no energy I still gave it my best. The kids who came 1st, 2nd & 3rd are going to the interschool cross country in Waikare which is been held on the 6th of September.

Cross Country Goals

Hi my name is Angela Roberts and I live in Haruru Falls, Hawke Drive. I.A.L.T pace myself and complete the race. How: I have to practice in extra time at home and school in extra time and on many grounds. Reflection: as i came 8th last year I want to improve and come 1st, 2nd,3rd, 4th or 5th. My Goals for cross country.

How we did green screen: We went on the field with Mrs G. Mrs G told us to try pretend were running and then we actually ran. We had to run around our goal post on the field. Then after that we went back to our classroom and Mrs G took a group that Mrs Neumann did earlier.

Then it was finally my groups turn and It was my turn and I presented my speech about Cross Country Goals And someone took the video in our class. Nikara and Mrs G was helping the person in our class that was taking a video of me doing my speech.   Next we all finished and went to Te awa's assembly. It was Amazing and it was so so so so so cool and fun.

Running is among the best aerobic exercises for physical conditioning of your heart and lungs. ... Just as important, running--like many forms of exercise -- is a great cure for stress, emotional strain, even mild depression. You'll likely find yourself with fewer headaches and more energy, patience, humor and creativity.
