Do you have Maths Eyes?

In Te Ngahere we have been doing some different kind of Maths called "Do you have Maths Eyes?". "Maths Eyes" is when we answer questions about the photo we see on the slide and what else we can see other then just a photo. For example: For this "Maths Eyes" we had to answer questions and say what we saw, other than just decorated gingerbread man.
This is my "Maths Eyes": Hope you enjoy and learn something new!

Beginners Guide On How To Find The Area Of A Shape

During lockdown (Level 3) my household has been very busy, especially with us doing homework everyday. Every day at 9:30 am our class has a hangout with our teachers where they talk about what we will be doing for the day. We also have another hangout at 2:00 pm where we talk about what we did and what our favourite thing we did for the day was. We also have been doing some Maths/Pangarau. The type of math that we are doing is called Perimeter and Area. When we learnt how to do Perimeter and Area, we had to make a Digital Learning Object. In the Digital Learning Object, we teach other people how to do it. I think I done good at screencastify. What do you think about my screencastify & DLO (Digital Learning Object). Have you ever screencastify before?

Summer Learning Journey Week 1 Day 1

On the 15th of April some students in Te Ngahere (including me) had to pick a country to describe and say why they picked that country and add some facts. The country I chose was Australia because I have never been to Australia and my cousins live there and they enjoy it!. Then I had to research on google 3 interesting facts about Australia and write down the ones I would prefer. The 3 facts I have chosen are It would take around 29 years to visit one new Aussie beach every day (there are 10,685 of them!), Australia has the world’s longest golf course measuring more than 850 miles long and Australia is home to 21 of the world’s 25 most venomous snakes. Then we had a bonus activity which you had to write a letter to someone about you going on a little holiday to the place you have chosen. Next time I’m going to challenge myself by doing most of the bonus activities because its extra work and fun. And did you know that there are over 60 different types of Kangaroos and Australia is the 6th largest country in the world?.

Going to the Beach

In Te Ngahere we have been going to swim in the ocean every Monday and Thursday in the afternoon. We have been learning different types of swimming styles like freestyle, breaststroke and much more. We have been learning how to swim better for the Russell swimming sports. I think that it’s better when we swim in the ocean because when we are in our pool there is no waves, and if we are in a life situation we will be able to face it. We can also get used to the ocean water for the Russell swimming sports. I enjoy every bit of when we are in the ocean at the beach especially when we are with our mates and teachers. I am learning heaps more and getting better at swimming, I LOVE it!. Bye!

Going to the Ngahere

In Te Ngahere we have been going to the Ngahere (the bush/forest). We have been going every once in a while. We have been going to the Ngahere so we can get some ideas to make our classroom look like the Ngahere. Our classroom is called Te Ngahere this is why we are we are going to the Ngahere and gathering ideas, because right now it just looks like an ordinary classroom and we don't want that, we want it to look interesting, exciting and make it look like the Ngahere. We started getting ideas and making our own projects a couple of weeks ago. We then started to work on our class projects on Wednesday, the day after we went to the Ngahere. We have seen many things such as spider webs, Moss, Vines, Creeks and Much more. While we were walking in the Ngahere we have been writing down ideas and what materials we will need in our book. I enjoy going for bush walks and seeing different things and learning different things in the Ngahere. I have heard different types of birds and seen things I have never seen before. Its surprising what you hear and see in the Ngahere. I hope we get to go back later and maybe next time you could also go the Ngahere. Thanks for reading.

Technology

On Wednesday 19th February Week 4 Term 1, the year 7 & 8 students from Te Ngahere went to Technology at Moerewa School. At Tech we had another teacher (Whaea Mahinaarangi) because Mr E (our actual teacher) was not well. So Whaea Mahinaarangi was teaching us how to make Cultural Necklaces that reflects on our culture, they were called Pewter Jewelry. We first had to draw 3 squares in our books that were 6cm then draw a picture that reflects on our cultures. Next we had to pick one picture for our design. After that we used a skill saw to shape our picture we drew. Then the following week after we are going to melt the silver, safely into the wood so that it would make the shape we carved out. Whaea Mahinaarangi said we will have to melt the silver in following week. Because we didn't have enough time. If Mr E is still not well the following week we will still have Whaea Mahinaarangi and we will carry on making our Pewter Jewelry. Whaea Mahinaarangi also said if Mr E is well she will tell him what we did and finished so we can have more time to finish our project. I really enjoyed Technology because it was fun and we used a skill saw and a seper. There was nothing I didn't enjoy there. I learnt that when you use a skill saw try not to get the big gloves, try to get gloves that fit right because it will make it easier when you have big gloves that you can't fit especially when your working on a small project. Maybe next time I could work faster so I can get my work done faster but we should not hurry art.

Turbo Touch

Kia ora, For the last couple of weeks our class, Te Ngahere have been playing physical activities e.g; Turbo Touch and fast five netball. But in this blog post I am going to be talking about Turbo Touch. At first not all of us knew how to play but then the more we played and learned new skills we got the hang of it. We started off playing turbo touch for about a week but then we started playing fast five. Turbo touch is a really fun activity but there are some rules. In my opinion I like the rules and they are really easy. I am going to explain the rules. The first rule is if you drop the ball it would be handover. Second rule, you are not allowed to kick the ball and if you do then it would also be handover. There is also one more thing, there is no offside. What I learnt was to spread out so its faster and easier to get a goal because when my team were in our first game of turbo touch none of us were spread out and it caused us to just keep passing the ball to the same person, kept on getting tagged and having to always give the ball to the other side because we were in and small circle bunched up together. What I also learnt was that we need to talk to each other and make a plan because not all of us were sharing the ball and we're not getting the ball. So that was the two main things I think from playing Turbo touch.

Here is a link to a video of Pro's playing Turbo Touch.
Here is another link to the Cup Finals for Turbo Touch.

Inter School Athletics

At Paihia School we have been practising for athletics every Wednesday and Friday. Last week on Friday the 22nd November we went to Bledisloe Domain to participate in the inter school Athletics. Athletics started at 10:00 am so we left at 9:30 am. I went with my Mum and she could take 7 people including me and my Sister. So we took my friend Zara, Tea, Amelia, Tiana, my sister and I. When everyone from our school arrived at Bledisloe Domain some of us were playing and some of us were eating. While we were all sitting Mrs Williams asked for everyone's attention and she told us what we were going to do throughout the day. After Mrs Williams did that, we said Karakia. I was with the year 6 girls and there were a lot of Paihia School, when we were doing the 100 metre sprints our school had to split up into groups, and for discuss we went first because there we so many of us. First we did 200 and 400 metre sprints, After that we did shot put then long jump the discuss. Then we had our break, after our break we did relays then 100 metre sprints and Finally HIGH JUMP and then we finished. We didn't get to do hurdles because some of the schools had to go back to school to catch there buses and some of them go to school further. I came 1st in the 200 metre sprints, I came 2nd in the 400 metre sprints, I came 1st in the 100 metre sprints and made it to the final and semi final so some people had to run three times like me, I came first in long jump and first in High jump. I really really love athletics and I had so much fun. Did you go to athletics? Do you have athletics? Do you like athletics?

Tessellation

Last week at Paihia School Te Ngahere were doing art. The type of art we were doing was Tessellation. Tessellation is a type of Art that is made from one shape that is closely fitted together in a repeated pattern without gaps or overlapping. We all had to create a new google drawing and make any shape. On our google drawing we made a parallelogram shape and got the scribble line and made scribbles around the parallelogram. We had to make sure that the lines were not overlapping. I had to make a couple of tessellations because I didn't know they were overlapping and I didnt know that they weren't allowed to be overlapping, but finally I managed to make a shape that wasn't overlapping and that didn't have any gaps. So what I learnt from tessellations was its made from one shape, it is closely fitted together in a repeated pattern without gaps or overlapping. Hope you learnt something new!

Energize

Over the year Whaea Gina has been coming to Paihia School to teach us about healthy eating. We had different groups of foods which were Meat and meat alternatives, Dairy Products, Grain Foods, Vegetables and Fruit. Whaea Gina came in to give us a recap about what we have been learning for the last couple of weeks. Whaea Gina brought some visitors with her and there names were Amy and Fiona. Amy and Fiona came to see what Whaea Gina does with us, what we learn and how she teaches us. Whaea Gina told us that It depends on the color of the fruit that gives you different vitamins and minerals. I will try to eat healthy and remember what I have learnt.
